Step 1: Write a complete argumentative text on the following task. Find at least two arguments for each side.

“Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of mobile phones in school."

Step 2: Complete the following tasks so that you know what to include in an argumentative text.

  1. Go through the introduction. Highlight the hook and the transition to the main body in green.
  2. In the main body find in each paragraph the topic sentence (red), the explanation (orange),
the evidence/example (yellow) and the concluding sentence (pink) and highlight them accordingly.
  3. In the conclusion, highlight the summary (blue) as well as the outlook/solution (purple).
  4. Write down all the connectors that were used.
  5. Find expressions of impersonal language.

Step 3: Work with the two texts.

  1. Do the same tasks with your own text.

  2. Compare your text with the sample solution. What is different? Is there anything you could improve?

  3. Now rewrite your text and include the improvements.
